Dragon Age: Everwinter
The Montfort’s have held the Montfort estates for the last two centuries. It is said that the great Andrik Montfort tired of rebuilding his farmstead due to Avvaran raiding parties organized the men of the Frostwood who lived on the edge of the Frostback Mountains into fighting units. He had hoped to discourage the raiding parties and push back the Avvaran aggressors deep into the mountains. At first the battles went well and the Avvaran seemed to lose heart. Eventually they stopped their raiding or so it seemed, but then a host of enemies swarmed down from the mountains and the Ferelden Freeman looked to be doomed. The Freemen hid their wives and children in a complex of underground caves and went to defend their homeland one final time. But Montfort didn’t join the men. Their leader had disappeared and as the Horde descended freemen knew their doom. They fought bravely, but outnumbered ten to one their lines quickly fell apart. That which was supposed to be a battle was becoming a slaughter and Ferelden blood flowed like a river down the mountainside. It was then when Montfort returned, wielding a Great Sword unlike any had seen before. With every swing of the blade 5 men fell, the earth shook as if thunder rolled from it’s tip, and the momentum of the battle changed, or so it was said. The men of the Frostwood rallied around Montfort and his relentless barage, the Avvaran’s were taken aback by the Ferelden’s ferocity. The battle continued into the night but when dawn came the next day… the Battle of Frostwood was won. Since that day the Montfort’s have been Arls over the land, the King granted Andrik title and men flocked to him as word of his deeds spread. But that was long ago when the name Montfort meant something. Some say even the Avvaran have forgotten the Battle of Frostwood. This is why as of late they have grown so bold.
